after reading a few posts on this forum, it sounds like ESET is well-liked, but it could use a little tweaking in the HIPS department, in order to improve the zero-day protection. However, people are saying that doing this could be a little challenging for non-experts.

Instead of tweaking, what about adding SpyShelter Free, and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit? Will that help? Any known conflicts?

Basically I am asking whether Eset with default settings + spyshelter free + MBAE is roughly...

I would like to know what would be the best settings for ESET Smart Security. I've tried their trial version many times before but it always confuses me, like having to choose or add a profile within the settings. I would preferably like settings to where I get great protection but also not too complicated if I had to make a choice in the matter, like HIPS and potentially messing up my system. I did a simple test today by exporting my current rules and delete everything. Then set the default only rule of ESET HIPS and set it to Policy Based Mode.

What I did next was using CCleaner to scan registry and delete invalid references (in this case OLD firewall rules).

As you can see its actions were blocked.

What I didn't expect however is the actions that were partially blocked access. The actual exe was searchindexer.exe
But then the same exact process gets blocked.

Any thoughts?...

HIPS mode: Automatic Mode

Now I have established a all-ask rule like this:
Rule Name: 1 - Ask All
Source: All Applications
Target: All Applications
Action: Ask
Application Operation: Modify state of another application

I have also created another rule which allows chrome.exe to modify itself:
Rule Name: 2 - Example Allow Chrome
Source: %ChromePath%\chrome.exe
Target: %ChromePath%\chrome.exe...

Hello. After several hours trying to solve my problems in Windows 10 with ESET Smart Security 9 (hangs, freezes...), today i've installed only Nod32 and my computer seems a new one. All is smooth and faster and i have no more problems when i switch between my users accounts (main problem with ESET). So, my question is: what am I losing with Nod32 instead ESET? Is enough with Windows Firewall? Frankly, usability and performance with Nod32 is far better than ESET...

Hi,

I was just wondering, why does everyone here like Eset so much? It never performs on par with security suits such as those from Bitdefender or Kaspersky, and even Eset's test results from antivirus testing labs (such as AV-Test) seem quite mediocre when compared to Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Trend Micro or even Norton. In everything ranging from performance impact to protection. Yet everyone here swears by it. What up with that?

For PUP, guess Eset gives alert. On alert I chose ignore...now under exclusion, the ignored file is not there...where in the GUI can I find the ignored file?

Or ignored option in the alert is just for 1 time i.e will get alert again until I manually put the detected file in exclusion?

And also how to set Eset to auto-quarantine PUP?

I just installed ESET Smart Security 9 Sunday night. It has a lot more configuring to be done than Avast, Webroot, or any other antivirus I've used. I have had some difficulty with it early on. I installed ESET Smart Security 9 last night. it immediately began giving me PUA alerts about programs I want to keep. Now this morning it gives me a very fleeting notice that it has gone ahead and deleted a perfectly good program called ALL Browsers Memory Zip.

This stinks! I can't imagine how ESET conjures up a notion that this program is a "threat". It's obscure, but that's no serious criteria for being a "threat." It is available on CNET and nsane forums as well as the developer's home...

I was doing better with ESET Smart Security till this happened.
I am being prevented from typing into most of my applications. I can't type into Outlook Express, the Find module of Autoruns, Firefox browser, or Slimjet browser. I can type into Wordpad, Jarte, and Maxthon browser.This is a grievous hindrance to my use of the computer obviously.

I just installed Smart Security for the first time on April 4.

I can't prove in a court of law that it's ESET, but I have never lost use of my...
